GHODEMODNI

It is a ritualistic dance form.It is performed in the various places of North Goa .The hobby horse dance nomenclatures as Ghodemodni .Ghodo means horse and Modni means cutting a route of calamities.The dance is performed during Shigmo. In this dance wooden mask of Horse in stipulated numbers ,are prepared traditionally and worshipped regularly in the house  of the one who performes this dance.It is strongly believe that masks should not be lifted at any occasion other than scheduled. Bamboo frames in similar number,suggesting the body of a horse are prepared and maintained are taken out at the time of festival.This Frames are covered by the colourful sarees and decorated with flowers .In the front the horse mask is tightely bound to the Frame.The dancers wear Rajput style costumes and sword is hold on the right hand and stand in the hollow space of a semicircular bamboo frame.Ropes of cloth is tightened from both the side for lifting it.The dancer controls this frame by catching the

MORULO

A dance of peacock is known as Morulo in local parlance.This dance is performed during Shigmo especially by the Farmers.At the village Sarvan in Bicholim Taluka,This dance is famous in North Goa. A group of males from that village performed this dance which reflects the particular movements of Peacock in a  typical gesture .Individual has to take proper training from elders to in order to know the steps and movements.  Costumes are quite simple .They were Dhoti and which is covered by the blue belt ,a white vest, and a garland of flowers around the neck,with smaller pieces tightened to the wrist and arms.A blue colour strip is tied on the head with a beautiful feathers of the Peacock is tucked in to it and a bunch of Ghungrus are also fastened to the foot. Ghumat,Samel,the zaanj and sometimes  Harmonium and Tabla is used as a musical accompainment. GOFF

This is the curious dance form.This dance is performed during Shigmo by Kulmi .A bunch of 6 to 12 ropes are suspended from the roof of a maatov .(a kind of temperory pavilion)erected in the courtyard of the house or on top of tree.  Each dancer holds a rope in his left hand and a TONI Or a Napkin in his right hand.The dance is performed on a particular rhythm .The instrument used in this dance is Ghumat ,Jodshamel  and Jaghaant. The players dance in such a way that one thick rope is formed and then reversed the direction to unwind the woven ropes. The dancers have to perform this dance with full concentration an a single error in their dance may lead to the improper weaving of rope.Many Kulmi men and youth are expert to perform this dance .Traditionally there is no specific music to accompany the Goff, but they sing few lines from Talo or any other popular song.

DHALO

D halo is the popular form of folk dance in Goa.Dhalo is the dance form performed by Kunbis,Bhandari,Naik,Gabit and Gaudi. Dhalo, is the festival of women which is celebrated for 5 to 7 days in a year . Earth goddess &  the forest goddess are the major entities worshipped in the Dhalo. .   The day when the dhalos start is called as '' dhalyachi punav''. a full moon night which is either onWednesday or Sunday.The women decorates with rangoli the open space in the house where tulas is installed .A folk song itself gives us a reference of the full moon and Tulassi is sung kartika Mahina, Kartika Mahina Malani Poonayen Alashe,Malani Aaloo Zhalay Baro Zhalo, Tulashi Zagha Benage kartika Mahina, Kartika Mahina Malani Poonayen  Tulashi Tumhe Ghala Ge Tulashi. The women offer a talli{Rice,Moogh,Jaggery} which is cooked and served to those who are present. The song begins with a acall to all friends to join the dance. Fugdi

  All women dances in Goa are reffered as Fugdi. There are few events where Fugdi is performed .Fugdi is performed in front of Ganesh as Anngwan (vow) to cure skin disease. This was also the part of customary service during Dishtaagouri.  In olden days women used to do a lot of work while bending their waist like applying cow dung,washing clothes and utensis, collecting wood etc.For this work they have to move her body left to right.All such acts are expressed at the times of dancing .Fugdi. Clapping o f hands during fugdi give them lots of enthusiasm , energy, pleasure and enjoyment. शेत म्हजे  डोंगरीं , वो चित्त  माजे माहेरी  आई माजा उगडास करी गो लेक माजी एकटी  नाही आई एकटी  नाय सासु  आहे  संगती    In above   song a newly married women express herself .She says that their field is at top of hills and she was attached to her mothers place .Mother remembers her daughter everyday and she says that she is not alone and her mother in law is there with her.
